Piqua Bike Trail
Piqua Activity Trail for your Health
traverses some of Piqua's most scenic areas.
The PATH (Piqua Activity Trail for your Health) is a multi-use trail that traverses some of Piqua’s most scenic areas while connecting the entire community.
The linear portion of the PATH is a 5+ mile tree-lined bike and walking path overlooking the center of the city. The paved asphalt trail runs east/west on an abandoned railroad. Significant features of the trail include a tunnel under Sunset Avenue, a bike bridge spanning College Street, and a timber deck and wooden guard-rails on the steel girder train bridge across the Great Miami River.
The next part of the PATH loops from French Park to Swift Run Lake located on State Route 66. One of the highlights of this section is the trail passing through a beautiful wooded. This section also passes alongside Frantz Pond and Echo Lake, traveling north on top of the levee that runs through Fountain Park, Forest Hill Cemetery, and continues on to Swift Run Lake.
The third section of the PATH returns from Swift Run Lake to Lock Nine Park. This final section, designated "River's Edge" runs along the Great Miami River. Portions of this section were built on the tow-path of the former Miami-Erie Canal. Some highlights of this section include a one-half mile long attractive retaining wall in the levee of the Great Miami River, zero street crossings the entire section, a scenic overlook of the river from a rest area, and picturesque views of the river and former canal.
Signs of the Past are another unique feature of the PATH. These attractive and informative historical markers highlight noted landmarks and events from Piqua’s rich heritage.
The entire trail is open to walkers, joggers, bikers, and rollerbladers. Access points are Spiker Road, Davis Parkway, French Park, the Municipal Government Complex, Lock Nine Riverfront Park, the Miami Valley Centre Mall, Patrizio Place, Troy-Sidney Road, Fountain Park and Roadside Park. A PATH map is available at the Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce, 326 N. Main Street. The Piqua PATH is just one of several beautiful parks located throughout the Piqua community.
Physically active visitors to Piqua might also enjoy a round of golf at the Echo Hills Golf Course, a city owned public course with plenty of challenges for both the novice and seasoned player.
